Even though the base architecture is the same in Windows 7 and Windows 8, Windows 8 has a lot of added features and differences over Windows 7 so a driver that works perfectly well in Windows 7 might prove to be incompatible with certain features of Windows 8. Drivers that are specifically designed for Windows 8, though, are tested thoroughly tested with Windows 8 to ensure there are no compatibility problems so it is strongly recommended to use Windows 8 drivers instead of Windows 7 drivers when possible.
